Clients 1980 – 1995

Before establishing my company, I managed the Adelaide College of TAFE’s Workplace Education Service from 1980 to 1992, providing English language training for immigrant employees in over 200 workplaces. Working with management, unions and other government services was an excellent education in organisational cultures.

In 1981, to help line managers to manage culturally diverse teams, I designed and facilitated the unit’s first cross-cultural communication workshop, for Bridgestone Australia supervisors and production managers.

In the mid-80s I was responsible for changing the national Adult Migrant Education Program policy to allow fee for service programs for industry clients.

I also successfully argued for the inclusion of literacy and numeracy training for English speaking employees and was instrumental in establishing the Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) Program. This was the first time in Australian history that two federal government departments agreed to fund the same program.

During this 12 year period I and my team provided language, literacy, numeracy and intercultural training services to over 200 organisations, including all of South Australia’s major manufacturing companies and many government agencies.
